Patrol Narrative:

01 Dec. 1944 I received orders from ComSubPac sending Paddle to the Carolina

Islands and wait for orders.

1415 06 Dec. We departed Pearl Harbor heading for Johnston Island.

1100 10 Dec. Arrived at Johnston Island and took on fuel and stores.

1600 10 Dec. Depart Johnston Island for Truk Island area.

2330 22 Dec. Entered the 500 mile Japanese air cover area.

0811 23 Dec. We got a radar Contact bearing 292°.

0915 Sighted a single ship. I moved in for the attack.

1022 I fired Two torpedoes. Both hit and sunk the ship.

0125 23 Dec. Radar Contact bearing 296°.

0205 Ship sighted heading west.

0220 I fired 3 torpedoes. 2 hits and one dud.

0225 I fired another torpedo and sunk the ship.

0315 30 Dec. Radar contact bearing 323°. Looks like we got us a convoy!

0330 The lookouts sighted a convoy bearing 004°.

0345 The escorts detected us and started pinging. I set the dive planes to deep

dive and went to 350 ft fast and ran silent.

0415 The escorts didn't drop any depth charges so I went to periscope depth

and was at the end of the convoy. I fired 3 torpedoes at a ship and sunk it.

0427 Another ship came close to me and I sank it.

0440 30 Dec. I received orders from the in-game ComSubPac to proceed to Rabual and

take pictures of the southern part of the harbor.

1040 We got a radar contact bearing284°.

1122 The lookouts sighted a Large Composite Freighter bearing 351°.

1137 I fired 2 stern torpedoes. Both hit. The ship started to list to Port

but not sinking. I waited for awhile to see if the ship would sink

but It wouldn't.

1211 I fired another torpedo and sunk the ship.

0440 04 Jan. 1945 I entered Rabual harbor for the photo recon and was in a good

position but I couldn't get the camera to work. I guess the Germans

didn't make them that good! I left the harbor and continued my patrol.

1334 05 Jan. Radar contact bearing 355°. I maneuvered for a good firing position.

1352 We sighted flashes on the horizon Bearing 004° along with smoke from

explosions. Something big was going on! Some sort of battle but I hadn't

heard of any allied naval units in this area. I proceeded with great care.

1500 A Destroyer came by firing at something but I couldn't see what he was

shooting at.

1509 I fired 2 torpedoes at the Destroyer. It blew up and sank. The convoy was

really scattered all over the place.

1530 More Destroyers showed up and I fired several torpedoes at one but

missed so I went deep.

2025 The escorts had left the area and I decided to head for Milne Bay to

refuel.

0400 06 Jan. The lookouts sighted orange smoke bearing 344°. We turned to check

it out.

0436 We came up on the smoke and sighted an airman in the water. We pulled

him out of the drink and found out that the earlier surface action was

an air attack against the convoy I ran across.

1234 07 Jan. We came across 2 large Sampans and sunk them with the 40mm.

1230 09 Jan. We arrived at Milne Bay and wasted no time taking on fuel, torpedoes,

ammo and stores.

1830 10 Jan. We departed Milne and headed for Truk.

0225 17 Jan. Radar Contact Bearing 019°.

0255 We sighted a single unescorted ship heading North West and moved into

a good firing position.

0330 I fired 2 torpedoes, 1 hit and 1 miss. The ship slowed down but wasn't

sinking. I fired 2 more and both hit. The ship rolled over and sunk.

0004 21 Jan. Radar contact bearing 179°.

0052 Sighted smoke from a large convoy bearing 020°. We were in a bad

position for an attack and had to maneuver to a better one which took a lot

of time and then there was only one ship that I could get a shot off at.

0105 I fired 2 torpedoes at the ship. 1 hit and 1 dud. The ship slowed and that

gave me a chance for another shot. I fired 2 more fish. 1 hit and 1 miss. I

fired 2 more torpedoes. Both hit, sinking the Maru The escorts were

coming in fast so I headed deep into a thermal layer where I got away.

0740 The escorts finally left. I surfaced and decided to head back to Pearl

Harbor.

1840 06 Feb. We arrived back at Pearl Harbor.

Respectfully Submited
