Torpedo Comparison: (Electric vs. Steam) Shot at 2 DDs, both at approx' 2700 yd range, nighttime attacks. Sank Yugumo DD with 2 wakeless electrics. Shiatsuyu DD detected torpedos at about 300 yd and changed course resulting in 2 misses. Will use spread for future steam torpedo shots at warships.

Patrol Narrative:
1) Patrolled Sea of Japan with borders 138 E Long and 37 N Lat.
2) 4Oct.- Hit Nagara Maru with 1 shot at boiler room. Sunk with deck gun.
3) 4Oct.- Penetrated convoy at 225' depth; rose and hit Nippon Maru at 750 yd. with spread of 4 torpedos. Dove and escaped at 2 kt & silent running.
4) 6Oct.- Penetrated convoy but detected by DD when rising to shoot. Went to 300 ft; got depth charged. Minor hull damage but escaped & repaired. No
torpedos fired. Hearing the "ping" is not a good thing.
5) 8Oct.- Noticed "too" frequent air patrols off Togi peninsula. Made night run around peninsula to find unescorted Fleet Carrier on patrol. Sunk it
with 4 electric torpedos (4hits).
6) 10Oct.- Hit Zinbu Maru with 1 torpedo(and 1 miss). Surfaced a 3K yd. to sink with deck gun. Zinbu had small rear gun but fired short.
7) 10Oct.- 2 hits on bow of Mamoyama Maru and had to sink with deck gun.
8) 14Oct.- Set up on convoy. Took long shots at 3900 yd. and sank Nippon Maru with 3 torpedo hits.
9) 14Oct.- Sank fishing boat to deprive enemy of Sushi.
10) 15Oct. Got 1 midship hit at Kiturin Maru & sank with deck gun.
11) 16Oct.- Sank Sampan "JUST FOR THE HALIBUT."
12) 22Oct.- Sank Sampan on return to Midway (deck gun crew practice).
13) 24Oct.- Sank 2 fishing boats; less food for the enemy.
14) 25Oct.- Expended last 2 torpedos on Kiturin Maru, 1 hit, 1 miss. Used deck gun to finish off ship and proceeded to Midway.
