Patrol Narrative:

While patrolling off Hong Kong radar detected a small high speed group of seven ships.

Moved in on the surface using radar and spotted a DD at 3200 yards.

Dove to radar depth and moved in spotting two CL's at 2500 yards with sound indicating five escorts.

At 1200 yards fired a spread of four from the forward tubes at the lead / nearest CL.
Just after the last torpedo was fired the convoy made a zig towards.
Made a hard turn to the left and fired four from the stern at 700 yards as they crossed our stern.
At least three hits on the near CL, possibly one on the far one then went to 150 feet in the shallow water and moved off to the South.

They dropped a few depth charges but nothing close.

After 20 minutes back at radar depth and spot one slow target 4500 yards ahead and the escorts a stern.
Close in on Bow on to the target on the surface.
Just as we fire a torpedo at 1500 yards the CL spots us and opens up.
Follow up with a second torpedo then crash dive. This torpedo hits and finishes the target.
After clearing the area we surface assess the damage and begin repairs.
One motor and deck gun not repairable, oil leaking, forward torpedo room a shambles, leaks throughout the ship.

While limping away one of the DD's begins following us, must have spotted the oil slick.
At 2500 yards we are forced to dive to periscope depth.
At 1000 yards he is slowly moving in and following our every turn.
At 700 yards fire two torpedos sinking the Destroyer.

Back on the surface the other escorts are not pursuing so head for port to make major repairs.
