Patrol Narrative:

0400 06 June We departed Midway for our Patrol zone.

1340 14 June We arrived at our patrol zone at position 30*31'N-136*21'E in calm seas and clear skies.

1640 14 June Radar contact bearing 012* range 12,000 yds.

1658 14 June I sighted a small convoy escorted by at least 4 destroyers heading 081*, range 2,040 yds, speed 09 knts. There was an Oil Tanker, a Troop Ship, a Standard Merchant Ship and a Small Freighter in one column.

1700 14 June I fired at the Troop Ship then the Oil Tanker from 1,100 yds and both torpedoes hit their targets, sinking them. I dove to 400 ft and the escorts were on me very fast. On the way down, the first attack knocked out our diving planes and sound gear. The next several attacks were close but the 3rd attack took out the periscope, radar, and leaks sprung up all over the place.

We got to 400 ft then ran silent. We went into a thermal layer and they were having trouble finding us. The boat was filling up with water so we had to move towards the surface

1820 14 June The pinging had stopped and I thought the escorts left the area. The flooding was getting critical and I ordered the boat to the surface

1850 14 June We surfaced. No enemy in sight and we took a look at the boat. There was a lot of damage and I decided to head for Midway Island.

1300 25 June We pulled into Midway Island and handed over the boat to the repair facility.

Respectfully Submitted
